On The Books is free and works without an account. This page states plainly what is collected, what never leaves your device, and who processes what.

The short version

  • The consumer website and Apple app are free and work without an account or sign-in.
  • Apple v1 keeps filters, saved calls, watchlists, home local, and calculator settings on the device. It has no account or account-sync lane.
  • The website keeps anonymous preferences, saved calls, and form drafts in the browser. Existing signed-in website accounts are addressed separately below.
  • There is no advertising, no ad network, no data broker, and nothing is sold.
  • Job-call data comes from public union job boards, not from you.

Anonymous website and Apple app

The website stores preferences, saved calls, and form drafts in browser storage and uses browser cache storage for an offline copy of selected public pages. The Apple app stores the current published snapshot and your preferences inside its app container so the board remains useful with limited service. Apple v1 has no account sign-in, account sync, delivered alerts, Sparky assistant, Travel & States module, or Apple Watch companion.

Requests, server logs, and website analytics

When the website loads or the Apple app refreshes its published snapshot, onthebooks.app is served by Vercel. Vercel receives and retains ordinary request metadata including IP address and IP-derived coarse location, user agent, request path, timestamp, response status, and routing or region metadata. Because retained paths can show an app launch or refresh and remain associated with the same network or device context, the Apple privacy disclosure treats coarse location, product interaction, and other diagnostic data as linked data used for App Functionality. It is not used for advertising or tracking.

  • Runtime logs. Vercel retains these records for one hour under OTB's current Hobby plan. That period may change if the hosting plan or configuration changes. OTB uses the records for delivery, uptime, diagnostics, and abuse prevention and does not export them into a separate user profile.
  • Website-only analytics. Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights run on website pages and record cookieless aggregate page views and performance timings. They do not run inside the native Apple app or on its API refresh requests and do not build a cross-site profile. Under OTB's current Hobby plan, Web Analytics has a one-month reporting window and Speed Insights has a seven-day reporting window. Those windows may change if the hosting plan or configuration changes.

Existing website accounts, support, and reports

Apple v1 does not create or connect an account. The website preserves existing account and prior-purchase infrastructure. If you already use a signed-in website account, the following processing can still apply:

  • Identity. Sign-in is handled by Clerk using a one-time email code, an email link, or Google. OTB does not create or store passwords. Clerk holds your email address and sign-in metadata.
  • Your synced data. Watchlist, saved calls, alert preferences, home local, hidden companies, and calculator profile are stored in our Supabase database, keyed to your account ID.
  • Website forms. Pressing Send on a Feedback or Community form transmits its message, optional contact detail, page, and attached context to onthebooks.app even when anonymous authorization later prevents server storage. A browser-local draft remains. When the server accepts a report, it may be stored in Supabase, delivered to OTB's configured GitHub feedback repository, or delivered through a private HTTPS webhook. Do not put confidential or member-only information in a report.
  • Support email. Emailing support sends us your email address, message, and any attachment you include. We use it to respond, investigate, correct data, or fulfill a deletion request.

Payments

The Apple app is free and offers three optional consumable support tips. Apple processes the StoreKit transaction. Tips unlock nothing, OTB does not receive card details, and the app does not send a receipt or tip-purchase history to the OTB server.

Consumer website checkout is dormant. The Stripe integration and records of earlier website purchases remain preserved for prior buyers and accounting. Stripe processed those payments; OTB did not receive card numbers.

A separate paid lane exists for automated agents and API clients. It is billed and authenticated independently and does not affect free consumer access.

Who processes data for us

  • Vercel — hosting, runtime logs, and website-only cookieless analytics.
  • Apple — App Store distribution, StoreKit tip processing, App Store reviews, and MapKit in the native app. Apple's processing is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
  • Clerk — existing website authentication and account identity.
  • Supabase — existing website accounts, synced preferences, and accepted reports.
  • GitHub or a configured HTTPS webhook — accepted website feedback when that production delivery path is enabled.
  • Stripe — historical website payment processing; consumer checkout is dormant.
  • CARTO — map tiles used by the website, not the Apple app.
  • Google — website font and favicon assets.
  • Zippopotam.us — website ZIP-radius lookup; the ZIP entered is sent directly to its public lookup service.

When the website shows a local's site icon, it uses Google's public favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons, which redirects to gstatic.com) so the mark can be shown; that request tells Google the local's public website address, and nothing about you beyond ordinary request metadata. The native Apple app does not use this favicon service or CARTO; its map is Apple MapKit.

Children

OTB is a tool for working electricians and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.

Retention and deletion

Clearing the browser's site data removes its local storage and offline cache. Deleting the Apple app removes its app-container cache and preferences; anonymous v1 also clears legacy beta account credentials when it first launches. Vercel retains runtime logs for one hour under OTB's current Hobby plan; that period may change if the hosting plan or configuration changes. The current Hobby reporting windows are one month for Web Analytics and seven days for Speed Insights; those windows can change with the plan or configuration. Existing website account data is kept while that account exists. Accepted reports and support mail are kept as needed to respond, investigate, correct the dataset, or meet legal and security obligations. Historical Stripe purchase and entitlement records are kept as required for tax and accounting.

To request deletion of an existing account, an accepted report, or support correspondence, email support@unshackledpursuit.com from the relevant address.

Your choices

  • Use the free anonymous website or Apple app without creating or connecting an account.
  • Clear browser site data or delete the Apple app to remove its ordinary local storage.
  • Request deletion through the monitored address on Support.
